CULTURE AS A DIGITAL JOURNEY

FROM HERITAGE TO DATA, TO VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES

Vienna Digital Lab deploys year-long expertise in digitizing the rare and the challenging – historic monuments and precious exhibits with innovative new methods, completely non-invasive and adapted to the nature of the object.

Yet the moment when monuments and exhibits become data is just a start – to a multitude of uses and different access points – from scientific and professional, to virtual tourism, education, gamification and horizon-extending immersive and interactive experiences.

THE SCANING

CULTURE AS A DIGITAL JOURNEY

STEP BY STEP PROCESS

Working with culture and art institutions requires a strict and detailed time- and area planning carried out before each step, sectioning rooms and planning technology and light conditions to achieve exact results.

CHOICE EQUIPMENT

To preserve the digitized heritage and exhibits, we use specially selected and adapted gear to meet the requirements set by institutional curators, science- and restoration departments

FROM DIGITAL DATA TO TARGET AUDIENCES

GRIDS AND PARAMETERS

In each room and around each exhibit, we define exact grids for10´s of thousands of true-detail raw photogrammetry pictures and optimum static lidar positions to achieve a saturated pointcloud and exact scenery measurement.

REAL-TIME RENDERING

Utilizing Epics Reality Capture pipeline, we generate digital twins in multiple levels of details from raw unaltered to optimized for multi-use cases as real-time 3D graphics, ready for deployment using the Unreal Engine technology.

LIGHT AND ATMOSPHERE

Our high-detail digital twin scenes can be set-up and modified in terms of light and color to create any scene, time-of day and atmosphere – from an exact copy of todays conditions to historic recreations of candle-lit Imperial Quarters

ADDING LIFE

Our scenes constitute a truly multi-purpose digital media sources – to be used for science and archive as well as for full-scale re-creations of rooms and characters for Virtual Productions and Immersive Experiences

TOUCH CULTURE

We believe in firsth-hand experiences – immersion and interaction – creating worlds from data and filling them with life and allow things no museum could imagine – such as picking up the exhibits with your own virtual hands…

MEASUREMENT AND DIGITAL CONTROL

With a combination of fully non-invasive and contactless digitization methods, we are able to create a sub-0.02mm precision surface disposition copies of historic originals

THE DIGITAL ART OF SCIENCE

PRESERVING TRUE TO LIFE COPIES

A scan of the then recently discovered Sarcophagus of Priest Psamtik, displayed on the EXPO 2020 in Dubai – performed through glass to capture the state and determine potential visitor flash-based deterioration
